The club is fielding two adult hurling teams this year, in Junior B and Junior D leagues. Our first adult hurling team was fielded back in 1985. The club won their first trophy in 1986 taking the Fingal Parish league. In 1987 the team were narrowly beaten in the league play-off but did manage to win the Top Four play-off against Good Counsel. The hurlers were beaten in the county final in 1997 but good work at juvenile level over the next few years would see us win our first adult league in 1995 against St.Pats (Palmerstown).
We continued to compete and although we lost county finals to Cabinteely in 1995 and again in 1997 following a replay, success was not far away. We won the Millar Shield in 1998 and again in 2002 when the league was also won. The Millar Shield is one of the oldest trophies being played for in Dublin, with the trophy first being competed for back in 1932.
The first adult hurling championship at junior level was won in 2003 by beating Ballyboden St.Enda’s in the final, which was a huge relief to everyone who supported hurling in the club. This panel of players has gone on to reach a league final and a championship semi-final in 2004. Two seasons ago we entered a second team at adult level with both teams now competing well in their respective competitions and were very unlucky in the championships last season. Hurling in the club is progressing at a steady rate with a great effort being put in from juvenile to adult level.
Training for the adults takes place every Tuesday & Thursday in Rivervalley Swords.
If you are interested in joining and playing for the club, or you feel that you can contribute in any way to the development of hurling at St.Finians GAA you would be very welcome to contact any of the mentors listed on our contacts page.
