Juvenile Code of Ethics and Good Practice Policy Statement
St Finian's GAA Club is fully committed to safeguarding the well being of its members. Every individual in the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for their rights, safety and welfare and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the club and the guidelines contained in the ‘GAA Code of Behaviour Underage'. The club is committed to ensuring that the importance of childhood should be understood and valued by everyone involved in the playing and mentoring of gaelic games in the club, and that all activities within the club should be guided by what is best for children. Adults interacting with children should always ensure that they treat children with integrity and respect and that the self esteem of children is enhanced. Verbal, physical, emotional or sexual abuse of any kind or threat of such abuse is totally unacceptable within the club, and will be dealt with in accordance with the GAA guidelines for dealing with allegations of abuse.
All games should be conducted in an atmosphere of fair play. The principles of fair play should always be emphasised and clear guidelines should be given regarding acceptable standards of behaviour. Behaviour which constitutes cheating in any form will be discouraged. All children in the club will also be encouraged to treat all club members, members of other clubs, mentors, referees and members of opposing teams in an equitable, fair and sporting manner.
St Finians is also committed to the principle of equality. All children in the club will be valued and treated in an equitable and fair manner regardless of ability, age, sex, religion, social and ethnic background or political persuasion.
In order to promote the best practice in children's sport, we shall comply with the guidelines as set out in the GAA Code of Best Practice in Youth Sport.
ensure best practice throughout the club by disseminating its code of conduct, including the disciplinary, complaints and appeals procedures in operation within the club to all its members. The club's code of conduct should also be posted in all facilities used by the club.
ensure that adequate open communication procedures are in place between the Executive Committee and all juvenile sections of the club, hurling, camogie and boys/girls football.
develop effective procedures for responding to and recording accidents
ensure that any unusual activity (high rate of drop-out, transfers, etc) is checked out and reported through the appropriate sub-committee to the Executive Committee
This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis.
