CLUB NOTES 07/02/2012

The 2012 season commenced with matches for our Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 footballers. The Under 12's were the only team to record a win but the Under 16's did start with a draw.

Camogie section registration day takes place next Saturday 11th February at 2pm in the club house. All parents and players are invited to attend. Please remember to bring your membership forms. Light refreshments will be served. Mentors will be on hand to answer any questions.

Well done to our under 10 camogie teams who achieved their first victories at Gormanston yesterday scoring 10 goals and 3 goals respectively. Our Under 12 Camogie team also recorded a good wins at the Gormanston indoor tournament on Sunday.

Yes it's true, the Kerry Senior footballers did have a pre-match training session on our pitch in Nevinstown on Saturday. The players needed a pitch to do a bit of stretching and kicking. Many thanks to all the lads who signed autographs and posed for pictures.

We remind all teams that the Club will be taking part in the St Patricks Day Parade in Swords and each team will be represented. Ideas relating to a theme to use in the Parade are more than welcome.

Member registration is due, please ensure fees are paid as soon as possible.

Best wishes to all our members, supporters and sponsors for a successful 2012.

Our new Adult Football Team Manager, Stephen Carslake advises that Adult and Minor training recommences on Tuesday 03/01 at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse. A further session will take place on Thursday evening at 7pm in Sportslink. Players are also advised that an outdoor session will take place on Saturday morning at 8am in Rivervalley.

The Club Lotto Jackpot was €3000 and there was no winner, The numbers drawn were 4, 8, 11, 22. The €50 winners were Jackie Caul and Dominic Harris. Next week's jackpot will be €3100.

Mentors are reminded that pitches in Rivervalley are closed for training or matches until January 14th.

Gaelic4Mothers resumes this Thursday night at 9pm in the Community Centre.  All are welcome.  No previous experience needed.  Come along, get fit, meet new friends and above all have a good laugh.

We would like add some more player profiles to the club website and therefore we need our adult (and over 16) players, male and female, to complete the player profile form on our website and return it with a profile picture to info@stfinians.com.

Membership for 2012 is now due and early return of the completed forms, available from the downloads section of our website, along with the appropriate fee would be much appreciated. Remember, players are not insured unless they are registered with the County Board.

The Fashion Show DVD is still available for €10, please send an email to info@stfinians.com if you would like a copy.  Limited number of copies available from the Club Shop.

Pre-season training is ongoing with challenge matches being organised to sharpen up the teams before the season kicks off.  

The Lotto Jackpot was €3,200 and the numbers drawn were 7,13,19, 20.  There was no winner.  The €50 winners were Irene O'Brien and Eamon McGill.   Next week's jackpot will be €3,300.

CLUB NOTES 23/01/2012

The Ladies Football team are looking for new recruits for the coming season. Contact Brian Fetherston bfed@hotmail.com or 0866041200 if interested.

The All Ireland trophy Sam Maguire will be coming to St. Finians on Sunday March 4th at 3pm. We will be looking for all teams up to get their team photo taken from 3pm onwards.

We are holding a White Collar Boxing event on Friday the 13th of April at the Wright Venue.  We are looking for boxers from all sections of the club.  We already signed 6 ladies, 10 senior footballers and 6 hurlers and we're inviting anyone who may be interested in boxing to contact Grace Murray or info@stfinians.com.  We need 30 fighters in total.   Full training will be provided over six weeks in the lead up to the fight night.

Forty children from the nursery, Under 10 and 12s enjoyed a fun filled afternoon in  Killester when the Camogie section had their annual outing to the Panto.  Our Juvenile Chairman, Pat Farrell, was the star attraction and once again put on a great performance.  Many thanks to Freda Farrell for organising buses and tickets.

The indoor hurling tournament in Gormanston started this weekend and will run for 5 weeks. Our Under 8's juvenile and Under 10 and 12 camogie teams are taking part.

The Coffee Shop has re-opened on Saturday mornings from 11am.  Come and have a cuppa, sit and chat to friends and make use of your clubhouse.  Keep warm on the sideline by availing of our take away service.

The Club will be taking part in the Swords St Patrick's Day Parade and we are looking for ideas and/or vehicles that could be used as part of our float. Please contact any member of the Committee if you have any ideas.

Our Under 8 Hurlers played their first match at the Gormanston indoor tournament. A good performance was put in by all our budding stars.

Don't forget that the Boot Swap is available over in the Clubhouse on a Saturday morning. Just bring your (cleaned) old boots and feel free to take a replacement pair for a small donation of €2. Just make sure the size is clearly marked on the boots you leave. The boot swap is on the landing upstairs. While you're there, why not drop into the Coffee Shop and treat yourself.

The White Collar Boxing event date has changed to Friday April 13th in The Wright Venue. If you would like to be one of the boxers please send an email to info@stfinians.com.

The Under 12 Camogie team had another great win in Gormanston on Sunday, well done girls.

The Adult footballers had their first fixture last Thursday against St Margarets. Under difficult conditions both teams contributed to an exciting match that ended with St Margarets scoring the winning point with the last kick of the game.

Congratulations to David Hattie and Aaron Cullen who played for the Fingal team that beat Armagh to win the Kehoe Shield Final on Sunday.

The Club Pitch co-ordinator is James Devlin. Please give James a call if you have any questions regarding pitch availability.

Sam Maguire will be coming out to the Club on Sunday March 4th and each team will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the cup.

We are running a Fantasy Cheltenham competition and tickets (€20) can be got from any committee member.

The Juvenile Football season started in full on Saturday and wins were recorded by our Under 12 and Under 14 teams.

Our Adult Hurlers had their first match of the season but were beaten by Parnells.

The Sam Maguire Trophy will be making an appearance in the club on the afternoon of Sunday 4th of March. A timetable has been issued to each team in the club to have their picture taken with the trophy.

Preparations are ongoing for the St Patrick's Day Parade so put it in your diary as we need a big turnout on the day.

The St Finian's Ladies Club will launch night this Tuesday at 8.15pm in the Clubhouse, all are welcome.

GAA CLUB NOTES - 26/02/2012

A very busy weekend of fixtures brought the club a lot of success with wins for our Intermediate footballers, Junior footballers and our Minor Hurlers. All the pre-season training certainly paid off this weekend. For all adult and juvenile results and fixtures please see our website.

We are hosting an Under 10 Indoor Camogie Tournament on next Saturday 3rd of March from 12 noon to 3pm. Well done to our Under 10 Camogie team on a couple of great results at the Gormanston Indoor tournament.

The Executive Committee are also delighted to report that we have taken possession from Fingal County Council of some new pitches in Ridgewood. The pitches consist of full sized and juvenile pitches and they will help us greatly with the fixture congestion at the weekends.

The Sam Maguire trophy will be visiting the Club next Sunday (March 4th) from 3pm to 6pm. All the teams have been allocated a slot for a team photo.  Please come over to the club and get your photo with the cup.

Our White Collar Boxing participants commence their training this week in preparation for Fight Night on Friday April 13th.

CLUB NOTES 05/03/2012

It was a really busy weekend for the Club with lots of events and matches. We hosted an indoor Under 10 Camogie tournament on Saturday with St Finians girls coming out as winners. Our Adult Hurlers won the first match on our new pitch in Ridgewood and our Minor footballers and Under 15 hurlers also had good results on Sunday. On Saturday we had wins for our Under 9's and 14's.

We also had the visit of Sam Maguire on Sunday afternoon when every team had their photo taken with the famous trophy. Lots of these photos will be in the Photo Gallery section of our website (www.stfinians.com) over the next few days.

Our White Collar Boxers have started their training for the fight night on April 13th. We are looking to get as much sponsorship as possible for the fighters so please let the event organisers know if you have any contacts that would like to sponsor a fighter or the event.

Remember that the Club will be participating in the St Patricks Day parade in 2 weeks time.

We are running a Fantasy Cheltenham competition to add some interest to the annual racing festival. Contact any committee member for a ticket.

CLUB NOTES 12/03/2012

Our Intermediate Footballers had another fine win at the weekend when they beat St. Sylvesters over in Malahide and now find themselves tied for the lead in Division 3 at this early stage of the season. Goals from Greig Donnelly and Darren Barry, at key moments in the second half, proved crucial in the two point win. The video of both goals is available on our website in the YouTube Videos section.

Our Juvenile teams games returned wins for the Under 14 footballers and our Under 10 Hurlers. The Under 10's remain unbeaten in both football and hurling this season. Keep up the good work.

The club has a float in the St Patricks Day Parade in Swords this Saturday and St Finian himself will be taking part. Please come out and support the club on their walk down Main Street.

Best of luck if you bought a ticket in our Fantasy Cheltenham competition - don't forget to get your entries in before each day's racing.

We must remind everyone that membership registration is due and required as soon as possible. Please complete the attached form and return to the Club office.

U8 CAMOGIE BLITZ

March 31, 2012

It was a big day for the newly formed U8 Camogie Team, they had their first official match while also hosting the first blitz of the season at River Valley pitches. Three clubs turned out, St. Finians, Fingallians and Nh Maurs, we played three matches and the final scoreline for the matches were:

 

Game 1 St. Finians V Nh Maurs 1 = 0 - 0

Game 2 St. Finians v Fingallians = 1 - 1 ,

Game 3 St. Finians v N Maur 2 = 6 - 2


All the girls played an absolute blinder and fought like warriors in every match. We had massive support on the sideline, everybody came along to lend their support to one of the newest teams in the club, their were mams, dads, grannies, aunties, family friends and even the few doggies cheering the girls on , the vice chairman was also spotted on the sideline lending his support which was very much appreciated.


A big congratulations to the team we are very proud of them and look forward to our further matches!

It was a busy week of fixtures in which we had a great win in the Intermediate Football Championship against Garda, setting up a local derby against Fingallians in the next round. Our Junior Footballers were unlucky to lose the first round Championship match to Parnells by the narrowest of margins. Good wins were recorded by our Ladies Football team, Minor Hurlers, Under 14 and Under 12 Footballers. We have a Clothing Collection along with a Cake Sale on Saturday 28th April at 11am. For the Cake Sale you can drop over cakes on Saturday morning from 10.30am. Donations of clothes can be dropped over to the Club on:

CLUB NOTES 13/05/2012

It was good week for lots of our teams, particularly our Adult Junior Hurling Team who won their second Championship match against St Maurs in Ridgewood on Sunday morning. We would like to wish to Morgan Doran of St Maurs a speedy recovery from the injury sustained during the game.


On Tuesday 15th of May St Finians Women's Club are hosting a social evening starting at 8.15pm when Bernie McNally from Fit-4-u will be giving a talk on fitness. New members can just come along and the cost is €5 which includes a refreshment and nibbles.


The Annual Fun Day has been changed to Saturday 16th of June. More details over the coming weeks.

CLUB NOTES 30/07/2012

Another great weekend for our adult footballers with wins for both our Intermediate and Junior football teams. Our Inters beat Ballyboughal on Saturday evening and the Juniors beat Wild Geese on Sunday morning.

We had seven representatives on the Fingal Minor Hurling team that played in the All-Ireland C Hurling Blitz in Monaghan on Saturday July 28th. Fingal managed to win all three games, beating Tyrone, Monaghan and Louth to reach the final of the competition, which will be played over the coming weeks.

The next Dublin SFC match is against Laois and it will be played in Croke Park on Saturday 4th of August at 7pm. It will be part of a double bill, with Mayo and Down kicking off at 5pm. Applications for tickets should be with the office before 10pm on Tuesday July 31st. You can send an email stfiniansgaaswords@dublin.ie or ring the office on 01 813-2656.
