CLUB NOTES 1ST JANUARY 2017

The club bingo takes place this and every Friday upstairs in Peacocks at 8.30pm. Imagine what you could do with the jackpot of €1500 to clear the Christmas bills!

Club Lotto - The club lotto jackpot on the 23rd December was €1700 and the numbers drawn were 2, 7, 10, 24. There was no winner. Lucky Dip Winners of €25 were Carmel Degnan, Eimear Wright, Carol McDonald & Patricia Murray.

The club lotto jackpot on the 30th December was €1800 and the numbers drawn were 12, 15, 18, 24. There was no winner. Lucky Dip winners of €25 were Denis O'Keeffe, B Dunne, Frank Egan, D & M Harris. Next week’s jackpot is €1900. 

The Club will be running a Foundation Level Coaching course early in the new year. It is mandatory for all coaches working with juveniles to complete this course. Date, time & venue TBA. Please contact GPO James Devlin 0864000324 to register your interest.

Congratulations to Emma Howe and Teegan Comber from the Under 15s LGFA team who have made the under 14 Dublin LGFA panel for 2017.

The Nursery (4-5 year old boys and girls) & Academy (6-7 year old boys and girls) sponsored by Sky Handling Partner will resume on Saturday 14th January at 10am & 11.30am respectively after the Christmas break as we look forward to using our new equipment. New members are always welcome. We are always looking for parents to become involved in coaching also.

The Club is running a Foundation Level (Football & Hurling) coaching course on Tuesday 17th & Thursday 19th January from 7pm to 10.30pm both evenings in St Margarets GAA club. The course is free to St Finians GAA members/coaches/helpers. Please wear comfortable clothes and runners and bring a pen and notebook. Contact GPO James Devlin 0864000324 to register your interest.

Best of luck to Caroline Brennan from our adult LGFA team who is taking part in the Junior Dubs Star game in DCU St Claires on Sunday at 11.30am.

Best of luck also to Ciara Buchanan from our adult camogie team who is playing her first match as part of the Dublin Premier Junior Panel.

Registration will open soon for the annual Haul D’ Naul cycle in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland which will take place on Sunday 12th March.

GRMA (Go Raibh Maith Agat) is the new GAA Membership Card programme, providing benefits and rewards to GAA members. It is a ‘thank you’ or ‘go raibh maith agat’ for your involvement in St Finians GAA club. Registration for the programme is now open with benefits available from January 2017. When you sign up, you will receive your Membership Card enabling you to avail of partner discounts, special offers and earn points for going to games. Points can be redeemed by individual members or pooled for redemption by GAA clubs.

You will need a 2017 GAA membership number to join GRMA and receive a Membership Card. Membership Cards will only be distributed to members who have signed up to GRMA online https://grma.gaa.ie/. 

The programme is only available to adult members (over 18’s).

Club members who wish to join the GRMA Programme can get their membership number from Club Registrar Jean McGill.

Due to huge demand for places, please note that applications have now closed for the Foundation Level coaching course taking place on Tuesday 17th & Thursday 19th January from 7pm to 10.30pm both evenings in St Margarets GAA club. Well done to the Junior A hurling team who beat Setanta Hurling Club away in a challenge game on Saturday with an overhead flick goal from Adrian Cahill proving to be the crucial score. Hard luck to the Junior B hurling team who were beaten away by Portmarnock on Sunday.

Well done the Under 8 & Under 9 boys teams who represented the club at the Gormanstown Indoor Tournament.

Congratulations to the 30 newly qualified coaches from St Finians, St Margaret’s & Ballyboughal GAA clubs who completed the foundation coaching course in St Margaret’s GAA Club over two evenings last week as we look forward to the new season where the skills acquired by the coaches can be put into practice. Well done also to GPO James Devlin who as always conducted the course in a professional manner and made it a very enjoyable learning experience for the participants. Please contact James to register your interest for any future courses.

All applicants must be Garda vetted or at least have the application submitted. Garda ‘e-vetting’ can be done on the GAA website.

Congratulations to the St Finians under 15 Camogie team who beat the Dublin under 14 panel on Saturday in Ridgewood. This is a great compliment to the girls and to the club being invited to play a Dubin Development team.

Well done to Mark Boyd and the Under 8s boys who played their first 'Go Games' match on Saturday versus St Margarets in River Valley.

The ALF4 footballers drew with St Annes 1-15 to 2-12 in Bohernabreena on Sunday in challenge game.

Hard luck to the Adult Camogie Team who were narrowly beaten by Erins Isle in a challenge game in River Valley on Sunday. 

St Finians GAA Club extends best wishes to Club GPO and Adult footballer James Devlin & Adult LGFA player Emma Keeley on their upcoming wedding next Friday 26th February on what is a truly ‘St Finian’s’ wedding. There was a presentation to Emma & James in the clubhouse on Saturday to mark the occasion. 

The club will be participating in the Swords St Patrick's day parade. Further details to follow from Irish Language & Cultural Officer Ronan White over the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Ciara Buchanan from our adult camogie team who was been selected to play for the Dublin Premier Junior team against Roscommon on Saturday.

A huge thanks to the mentors & helpers who took part in the  'Door to Door' recruitment campaign in Boroimhe estate on Saturday.

There will be GYW referee recruitment courses will taking place over the coming weeks. The course is aimed a recruiting referees to officiate at club U8 to U10 fixtures as organised by Dublin LGFA.

Course participants must be 15 years of age or over with the course 3.5 hours duration. Places on the course will be confirmed on receipt of booking form and course fee of €10. Payments must be paid in advance as no payment will be accepted on the day of the course.

Congratulations to the AHL4 team who beat Na Gael Oige by 3-6- to 2-6 in St Catherine's Park on Sunday morning.

Hard luck to the AFL4 team who were narrowly beaten by a point away to O’Tooles on Wednesday night.

Well done to John McGuirk and the Thomas Ashe Minor boys team who a great win today in their first division 4 league match away to St Vincents with a score of 4-17 to 2-10.

Congratulations to the Under 12 boys hurling team on an excellent win on Saturday morning in River Valley over St Oliver Plunketts in a very good quality league game from both sides.

Well done to the Under 11 boys hurling team who took part in the Gormanstown Indoor Hurling Tournament and who played their hearts out every week and never gave up. You are a super bunch of lads and you did your club proud!

The Club is participating in a 'Fantasy Cheltenham' fundraiser from 14th March to 17th March. There is €10000 in prize money. All entries must be in by 12 noon on the race day. There are double points for the 1st race each day and there are no points for non-runners. CLUB NOTES 5TH MARCH 2017

March 05, 2017

Congratulations to our Under 7, 2010 boys & girls who took part in their first blitz in Fingallians on Saturday as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge along with St Maurs of Rush. A word of thanks to our neighbours Fingallians for hosting the blitz. A very enjoyable time was had by all. Thanks also to the Academy Coaches, helpers & parents who helped with the preparations at very short notice.

The underage structure in the club looks very positive with the foundations of very competitive Under 8s boys and girls teams already in place for next year with well over 30 kids from St Finians taking part. It was a great achievement for the club to be able to field four teams comfortably. Check out the Club Facebook page for some photos of the blitz. 


All fixtures in River Valley & Ridgewood scheduled for this weekend were called off due to the weather.


All juvenile members are invited to take part in the Swords St Patrick's Day parade accompanied by their parents wearing their St Finian’s colours. The parade starts at 11am and all parents & children are requested to meet in Colaiste Choilm at 10am. Team mentors will be in touch with parents over the coming days. Thanks as always to Nick Collier from Collier Transport who provides the truck for the club members to stand on and in always ensuring that it adheres to the required safety standards.

Everybody is invited back to the clubhouse for some ceol agus craic & refreshments afterwards from 12.30pm onwards - all are welcome.


The Easter Camp will take place from Tuesday 18th April to Friday 21st April. Prices are €35 for 1st child member, €60 for 2nd child member and 3 children plus €70. For non-members it’s €50. Those registered with the Nursery & Academy are classified as members. Online payments can be made on the club website over the coming days.

There are Ladies ‘Boxercise’ classes being held in the Clubhouse Activity Room on Monday evenings from 8.10pm to 9pm. All levels welcome. Congratulations to Rachel Fagan & Robyn Lynch from the Under 15 Camogie team who have been selected for Dublin Under 15 Camogie Development Panel. This will be Rachel's 3rd year and Robyn's 2nd year to be selected.


The Intermediate Football Team is looking for somebody who would be interested in video recording their games during the coming season.

They have a fairly good camera, tripod etc. Potentially it would be good experience for someone interested in that area. If anyone is interested please contact Aidan Morrissey on 087 254 4273.

It was a good weekend for the Adult Hurling Teams who both won their matches in close encounters. The AHL 4 team beat St Vincents by a point on Sunday morning in Ridgewood. The AHL 9 team beat Scoil Ui Chonaill by 3-11 to 3-9 Ridgewood on Sunday afternoon.

Well done also to the Thomas Ashe Minor team who beat St Peters in River Valley on Sunday morning.

There were wins also for the the Under 15 LGFA & Camogie teams who beat St Sylvesters & Na Fianna respectively in away encounters.

Congratulations to the Under 14 Division 6 team who beat St Monicas in Edenmore.

Well done to the Under 13 LGFA who played their first league game in Division 3 on Saturday versus Balinteer St Johns.

Congratulations to the Under 10 girls who took part in a blitz with Lucan Sarsfields, Kilmacud Crokes, St Mary's, Ballymun Kickhams and Garristown to mark the official opening of Trinity pitches on Santry Avenue. A reminder that all juvenile members are invited to walk with their team in the Swords St Patrick's Day parade accompanied by their parents wearing their St Finian’s colours. The parade starts at 11am and all parents & children are requested to meet in Coláiste Choilm car park on the Forest Road at 10am. Team mentors will be in touch with parents over the coming days. Thanks as always to Nick Collier from Collier Transport who provides the truck for the club members to stand on and in always ensuring that it adheres to the required safety standards.

There's a table quiz in aid of Loreto College in Peacocks on Thursday 16th March at 8pm. €10 per person, tables of 4. As St Finians GAA Club is working together with Loreto in building the new All Weather Pitch, club members & supporters are encouraged to support this fundraising event for the school.

It was a successful weekend for the Adult football teams. The AFL4 team beat Lucan Sarsfields in Ridgewood on Sunday by 10 points to 7 with outstanding displays from Conor Lennon, Paddy Hattie, Mark Degnan & David Butler in wet and windy conditions. The AFL8 team had a great win away to Kilmacud Crokes with a final score of 2-12 to 7 points.

St Finians GAA Club as always featured prominently at the Swords St Patrick’s Day parade. A word of thanks to Irish Language & Cultural Officer Ronan White who made all of the arrangements and lodged all of the necessary paperwork for the club’s participation in the parade. Thanks also as always to Nick Collier from Collier Transport who provided the truck for the club members to stand on and in always ensuring that it adheres to the required safety standards. Well done to the AHL9 team who beat Na Fianna in River Valley on Sunday afternoon with two 2nd half goals from Adrian O'Keeffe being the crucial scores along with Conor Halpin and Peter O'Connor also in good scoring form. The backs had a clean sheet with James Quigley and Paul Burke very strong in central positions.

Hard luck to the AHL4 team who were narrowly beaten away to Lucan Sarsfields on Sunday morning.

The Thomas Ashe Minor Football team drew away to Good Council in a tough Division 4 league game.

Well done to the 8 girls from St Finians Under 15 LGFA Team who represented Loreto College Swords in their Leinster Final win on Friday. Grace Murray received player of the game and both Rachel Church and Rachel Fagan got some excellent scores.

Congratulations to Jonah Smartt who has recently completed a course of chemotherapy for a recent illness and who was one of the mascots leading the teams out in Croke Park at Saturday’s National League game between Dublin and Roscommon. Jonah’s mother Aoife is one of the Under 8s Boys team coaches and Jonah’s brothers Nathan & Noah also play for the Under 10s and Under 8s Boys teams respectively. Best wishes from all at St Finians GAA Club to Jonah for a full and speedy recovery.

St Finians GAA Club extends deepest sympathies to Ciaran Smith’s family and to our neighbours Wild Geese GAA Club who Ciaran plays for and who was aboard the 116 Irish Coast Guard Helicopter and indeed to all of the families of the other missing crew members. They are in our thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations to the Adult LGFA Team who beat St Anne's in the Division 6 A cup on Wednesday evening in River Valley.

It was mixed fortunes for the Adult Football Teams,the AFL8 team won against St Peregrine's in Ridgewood

on Sunday morning. The AFL4 team, were beaten by St Judes in Ridgewood on Saturday evening.

Well done to the Under 14 LGFA girls who put in a great team effort in the Feile on Saturday in Russell Park. Thanks to Tesco Ridgewood for their sponsorship. 

Congratulations to the Under 12 Boys who played two games in less than 24 hours due to a backlog of fixtures and who won both of them. 

The Executive Commitee would like to thank all those who donated cakes and also to the Fundraising Committee for arranging the cake sale in the clubhouse on Saturday, especially Mary Murray and Caroline Savage which along with the Easter Raffle were successful fundraising events for the club. The Committee would also like to thank those who donated prizes and who supported the Easter Raffle. Your support is greatly appreciated.

The AHL4 team beat St Maurs on Saturday in Ridgewood with Adam O'Shaughnessy finding the net & Shane O'Brien getting an impressive tally of 10 points. The AHL9 team beat Erins Isle in Finglas on Sunday in a very close encounter with crucial late scores from Matt Murray & Barry Shelly.

Well done to the Adult Camogie team who played their first league match on Wednesday evening in River Valley by beating Kilcoole, in a great start to the season.

Congratulations to the Thomas Ashe Minor Football team who beat Kilmacud Crokes in St Margarets on Sunday morning in their Division 4 League game.

It was a busy week for the Under 15 Boys hurlers with an excellent win over Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday week and a narrow defeat to Erins Isle on Thursday evening.

Congratulations to Liam Kiernan who has been selected for the Under 15 Dublin Hurling Squad.

Well done to Teagen Comber & Emma Howe who were on the Dublin Under 14 team who beat Laois in the Leinster Championship on Saturday. Dublin will play Meath in the Leinster Final in May. Best of luck to the girls in the final!

It was a successful weekend for the Adult Hurling Teams. The AHL4 team who had a great win over St Oliver Plunketts in Ridgewood on Saturday evening, with Shane O’Brien, Domo Harris & Adam O’Shaughnessy who scored great goals with Jack Murray also in good scoring form. The AHL9 team beat St Peregrines in Blakestown on Sunday to top the group with Jay Merriman, Conor White & Eoin Murray dominant at the back and Adrian O’Keeffe in good scoring form.

Well done to the Adult Camogie Team who beat Naomh Barróg on Tuesday in River Valley.

Congratulations to the Thomas Ashe Minor team who won their Division 4 league game by beating Castlknock in St. Margarets on Sunday.

Well done to Teagan Comber & Emma Howe from the Under 15 LGFA Team who were part of the Under 14 Ladies Dublin football team which won the Leinster Championship on Saturday. In an exciting, physical game the Dubs only led by 2 points at half time having played with a strong wind. In the second half the girls turned on the style and put in a great performance to run out 3-14 to 1-06 winners. Next up is an All Ireland semi final. Pictured are Teagan & Emma with the trophy.

Well done to our Gaelic4Mothers and others team who had a great win over St. Pat's of Donabate on Friday. It was a very competitive game with great performances from all players.

Congratulations to the Under 13 LGFA team who had a fantastic away win over Lucan Sarsfields.


Well done to the 2010 boys who had their first training session as a new team. They all put in a tremendous effort and will be a formidable team going forward. The underage structure in the club looks very positive and encouraging.

It was mixed fortunes for the Adult Hurling Teams this weekend. The AHL9 team beat Civil Service on Sunday afternoon in River Valley with Peter O’Connor & Mark Walsh dominant at the back and Sean White very influential at midfield. Hard luck to the AHL4 team who were beaten away by St Judes on Saturday evening. 

Congratulations to the Adult Camogie Team who beat Commercials in River Valley on Tuesday finishing 2nd in the league, unlucky not to finish top if other results elsewhere had gone their way.

Well done to the Under 15 LGFA Team who had a fantastic win over Castleknock in Ridgewood on Tuesday evening.

Congratulations to Ellie Kane, Grace Murray, Ciara Laird, Teagen Comber & Emma Howe from the Under 15 Camogie team who represented the club in the Under 14 Dublin team who won Leinster Blitz Shield last weekend.

Well done to the Under 13 boys football team who beat Parnells away on Saturday with an excellent display.

The Dublin LGFA Referees Development Committee are hosting a club mentor information evening on Friday May 26th at 8pm in Fingallians GAA Swords for club mentors from Under 13 up to and including Adult.

Playing rules and interpretation of the rules will be explained with any queries answered and addressed by some of our top officials. Mentors will be advised on the correct procedures in relation to fixtures, communication with other clubs, communication with referees, the Gum shield rule, returning match results etc basically everything one needs and should know as a team mentor. All club mentors are welcome to attend.

Could parents with older children who have smaller child’s hurleys lying around their sheds which they are no longer using,donate the hurleys to the club so that they could be reused with newly formed younger juvenile teams while they are getting established, this would be greatly appreciated.

t was a mixed bag of results for the Adult football teams this week. The AFL8 team drew away with Geraldine Morans on Tuesday evening while the AFL4 team beat Castleknock away on Wednesday evening but were beaten by Clann Na Geal Fonetnoy on Saturday evening in Ridgewood. The AFL8 team’s unbeaten run came to an end with a narrow home defeat to Stars of Erin on Sunday morning in Ridgewood.

A word of thanks to Under 11 girls coach, Tony Egan (pictured) who donated a box of children’s hi-vis vests and a box of gum wraps to promote Fingal County Council’s Gum Litter Awareness Week. In addition Tony has donated reusable water bottles, so there should be no excuse for children to be thirsty on match days and at training! Remember to always, ‘Bin your gum when it’s done!’

The Nursery & Academy sponsored by Sky Handling Partner will not take place on Saturday 3rd June, the Bank Holiday weekend but will resume on Saturday 10th June at the usual times 10am & 11.30am respectively.

It was a successful week for the Adult football teams.

The AFL8 Team had a great win over Ballyboughal in Ridgewood on Tuesday evening, while the AFL4 team beat St Oliver Plunketts away on Wednesday evening.

The Under 15 boys had a busy and successful previous week (especially during exam season). The lads had a narrow 2 point win in hurling on Sunday over St. Sylvesters. On Wednesday evening, they played out an exciting game of attacking football v Na Fianna, winning by 1 point, with a last minute goal by Sean Clifford.

There will be a clothing recycling collection on SATURDAY 17th June to raise funds for our club. Please donate all your CLEAN unwanted clothes(in any condition as old and torn clothes will be shredded for industry), bedlinen, towels, curtains, shoes,handbags and soft toys. NO HOUSEHOLD BRIC A BRAC. Please drop off bags to the clubhouse on MONDAY 12th June - THURSDAY 15th June from 7.30 -9pm, and also SATURDAY morning 17th June. Clothes will be collected at 12 midday so please have your bags in on time. Thank you for your support.

It was a good week for ALF8 team who beat Ranelagh Gaels away on Tuesday evening and Garda in Ridgewood on Friday evening. It was mixed fortunes for the AFL4 team who were beaten away to Thomas Davis on Wednesday but won at home to Good Counsel on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Gaelic for mothers and others team who beat neighbours Fingallians in a very competitive local derby. A special word of thanks to Fingallians for observing 1 minute silence for Sandra O' Brien Murphy recently deceased. It was very much appreciated.

St Finians GAA Club expresses deepest condolences to Barry O’Hea’s family and friends on his untimely passing. Barry has been actively involved with the club for several years both as a supporter and as a coach with our Under 13 Camogie and football teams. His 3 children Blaithín, Oisín and Clodagh play football and Hurling/Camogie with the club and his wife Niamh is also an active supporter of the club acknowledging the great sadness this has caused his family and friends and community as a whole. Barry’s funeral mass will take place on Monday morning June 26th at 10am in St Finian’s Church followed by burial in Rolestown.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

It was mixed fortunes for the Adult Hurling Teams this week. The AHL9 had a great win over local rivals Fingallians in River Valley on Sunday with goals from Ian Fahey, Johnnie (Pat Spillane knee bandage) Walsh & Matt Murray with Luke McBride in super form at wing forward. The AHL4 team were very narrowly beaten at home by Naomh Fionnbarra on Wednesday evening despite good scoring from Adam O’Shaughnessy, Dom Harris & James Shelly.

The 2nd summer camp will take place Tuesday August 15th to Friday August 18th and 3rd camp will take place Tuesday August 22nd to Friday August 25th. The Club is currently looking for somebody who regularly attends home and away Adult Football & Hurling matches to take photographs at those games, which can be submitted to the Club PRO for uploading to the Club Website and Facebook page. This role may suit somebody with an interest in photography and a high spec digital camera will be provided. Expressions of interest should be forwarded to pro.stfiniansswords.dublin@gaa.ie.

The AFL4 team were undefeated this week by drawing away with Cuala on Wedensday evening, and narrowly beating Kilmacud Crokes in Ridgewood on Saturday. The AFL8 team were narrowly beaten by Na Fianna in Collinstown on Tuesday evening.

The AHL4 team play Clanna Gael-Fontenoy at home in the Junior A Hurling Championship on Wednesday 5th July and are away to Na Fianna on Saturday 8th July. The AHL9 team play O’Dwyers away on Sunday 9th July. Please come out and show your support for the Adult Hurling teams!

The Under 10 & Under 11 girls had their last official training session of the year on Wednesday and to mark this a Dublin legend turned up to give them some sound advice and relate stories from his playing and managerial career. Paul Clarke, whose niece Reanna plays for the Under 11 team, came along and graciously gave of his time. Paul won an All Ireland winners medal in 1995 and recently managed the Dublin senior football team to win the O'Byrne cup. Many thanks to Paul and keep up the good work girls.

St Finians GAA extends sincere condolences to Andrea Walsh on the passing of her mother. Andrea is an active supporter of the club and her husband Johnny plays adult hurling and is a coach for the Under 13 boys.

It was mixed results for the AHL4 team who beat Clanna Gael-Fontenoy on Wednesday evening with a great comeback securing a place in the quarter final of the Junior A championship. Goals from James Shelly & Shane O’Brien were crucial as was staunch defending from Shane Murphy. The team were beaten however by Na Fianna in the league in Mobhi Road on Saturday.

The AFL4 team play Trinity Gaels away on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm and are at home to Man o War on Saturday at 6.30pm. The AFL8 team are at home to St Patricks Donabate on Sunday morning at 11am. All support welcome!

It was a successful week for the Adult Footballers, the AFL4 team had a great away win at Trinity Gaels on Wednesday evening while the AFL8 team beat St Patricks of Donabate on Sunday.

The AHL9 hurling team play Whitehall Colmcille at home in the semi final of the Junior F championship on Thursday 20th July at 7.15pm. The AHL4 team play local rivals Fingallians in Ridgewood on Saturday 22nd July at 6.30pm. All support welcome and appreciated. The Executive Committee asks those attending matches when parking in Ridgewood to consider local residents and to park responsibly and arrive by bike or foot where possible.

After a narrow defeat to St Sylvester’s on Thursday evening the Gaelic for Mothers and others will take part in a Leinster blitz in Athlone next weekend.

Congratulations to the Dublin Senior Footballers who on Sunday won an unprecedented 7 Leinster Titles in a row. The focus now switches to the All Ireland Quarter finals!

Well done to the AFL4 team beat St Brigids away on Wednesday. It was mixed fortunes for the AFL8 team who beat Round Towers Clondalkin away on Tuesday evening but were beaten by Naomh Olaf on Sunday morning.

Well done to the Adult Camogie team who won two out of their three games in their 7s tournament in Castleknock on Wednesday, great wins against Castleknock & Erins Isle.

The LGFA Adult team drew at home with Clanna Gael Fontenoy on Wednesday in the Championship. They play Naomh Mearnóg away also in the championship next Wednesday 2nd August at 7.30pm, so all support welcome for the adult ladies!

As some of you already know, Club GPO James Devlin will be leaving St Finians at the end of August. 

The Juvenile Structures within the club are in excellent shape as a result of James’s efforts both on the pitch and in Holy Family & Holywell schools and the Club would like to thank James for all of his hard work over the past 8 years and wish him & his wife and Adult Ladies footballer Emma, best wishes for the future as they head for Abu Dhabi. 

There will be a social night with DJ & music upstairs in Peacocks on Saturday 19th August from 8:30pm until late, to mark James’s & Emma’s departure.

The AHL4 team play Lucan Sarsfields away in the Junior A Championship playoffs on Saturday 19th August at 6.30pm. The AHL9 team are away to Whitehall Colmcille on Sunday 20th August at 3pm.

A big thank you to Dublin Aerospace for their very kind sponsorship of our under 15 LGFA kit and windcheaters for both LGFA and camogie teams. A huge thanks also to Paula Deegan for organising the sponsorship. A presentation of the equipment took place in the Dublin Aerospace hanger in Dublin Airport on Friday 11th August.

The 2nd & 3rd summer camps are taking place from Tuesday August 15th to Friday 18th August and Tuesday August 22nd to Friday August 25th. Online payments are no longer being accepted but payments can still be made in the club office. St Finians GAA club is holding a raffle for two Stand Tickets for the All Ireland Hurling Final on Sunday 3rd September and for two Stand Tickets for the All Ireland Football Final on Sunday 17th September. 

The draw for the Hurling Final tickets will take place on 31st August and for the Football Final tickets will take place on 16th September. 

Raffle tickets are €5each and are available from the Clubhouse Office, Mentors or any Committee member.

Congratulations to the AHL4 team who had a super win away over Lucan Sarsfields in the Quarter Final of the Junior A Championship on Saturday evening.

The AFL 8 team are playing Portobello at home on Tuesday August 22nd at 7pm, and are away to St Sylvesters on Sunday 27th August at 10:30am. The AFL 4 team are at home to Man O’War on Wednesday evening August 23rd at 7pm and away to neighbours St Margarets on Saturday August 26th at 6:30pm.

The Adult LGFA team are away to St Patricks Donabate on Monday 21st August in the Junior D Championship Group A at 7:30pm. Please show your support for the AFL & LGFA teams.

It was mixed fortunes for both Adult Football teams.The AFL4 team had a great win over Man O’War on Wednesday evening in Ridgewood but were beaten by neighbours St Margarets away on Saturday evening. The AFL8 team beat Portobello in Ridgewood on Tuesday evening but were beaten away by St Sylvesters on Thursday evening.

Congratulations to the Adult LGFA Team who beat St Patricks Donabate on Monday and making it to the semi-final in the Junior D Championship against Ranelagh Gaels last Wednesday.

Well done to the Under 12 boys who won their Camaint final in Abbotstown on Wednesday evening.

Despite a narrow defeat for the Dubs, this was a great achievement for the club & Ciara who is an excellent role model for Juvenile players coming through the club. There was also strong support from the underage camogie teams who were in attendance who also made vidoes of support which were posted on the Club Facebook page.

Congratulations to the five St Finians girls Ellie Kane, Emma Howe, Ciara Laird, Teagen Comber, Grace Murray who represented the club in the All Ireland under 14 Camogie blitz on Saturday.

A big thank you to all those who helped with the Nursery & Academy on Saturday morning led by our new GPO Paul Lyons who joins us from Erins Isle. There were record numbers in attendance! GREEN DOG WALKER PROGRAMME

September 14, 2017

The Environment Awareness Section, Fingal County Council, operate a Green Dog Walker Programme, whereby dog owners are encouraged to take a Pledge to be responsible and clean up after their dog(s). To that end, the Council has partnered with St Finian's GAA Club, Swords, to make doggie bags and armbands available to the members and their families. This initiative is both positive and very welcome and should benefit the community of River Valley and the surrounding area.

 Remember, Don't give your dog a bad name!. Poop and Scoop.

Thanks to Under 11 girls coach and Fingal County Council employee Tony Egan for arranging this initiative.  Club PRO James Freeman, Under 7s girls coach Jenny Foster and Under 7s girls Megan, Sarah, Emily, Erin & Aoife and of course Poppy the dog accepted the bags and armbands on behalf of St Finians GAA Club.

St Finians GAA Club are pleased to announce Paul Lyons as its new Games Promotion Officer. Paul brings a wealth of experience to the club joining us from Erins Isle & Setanta Hurling Club where he was previously assigned. Paul is also Senior Hurling manager with St Peregrines & is also involved with the Dublin Hurling development squads. Paul will also work in Holy Family Junior & Senior schools and Educate Together Holywell and will co-ordinate Nursery & Academy on Saturday mornings continuing the good work of his predecessor James Devlin in the role.

Well done to the AFL4 who reached the final of the Club Intermediate All Ireland 7s in St Judes Templeogue on Saturday.

Congratulations also to the Under 15 LGFA Team who are in the Division 1 championship final. It's a fantastic achievement  the first for the club in LGFA.

The AHL4 team are away to Clontarf on Saturday 23rd September at 5pm. The AHL9 team are at home to St Josephs OCB on Sunday 24th September at 3pm. The Adult Camogie Team are away to Crumlin in the Senior 7s Championship Group 2 on Sunday 24th September at 11am. All support welcome and appreciated.

Congratulations to the Dublin Senior Football team who have completed the 3 in a row of All Ireland Titles in another epic battle with Mayo, a feat not achieved since 1923.

Congratulations to Michael Freeman from Finglas who won the pair of All Ireland Football Stand Tickets at the Club Race Night on Saturday night in Peacocks. The winning ticket was sold by James Freeman. Well done also to James Sullivan who won the ticket kindly donated to the club by Adult Hurler & Under 10s Boys coach Ian Fahey.

Dog fouling on the pitches in River Valley can often present a disgusting & hazardous headache for players, coaches and parents who have to clean footwear, gear and equipment afterwards. To that end, St Finians GAA Club has teamed up with Fingal County Council to make doggie bags and armbands available to members, supporters and their families. A word of thanks to Under 11 girls coach Tony Egan who arranged this initiative on behalf of the Council which should benefit the community of River Valley and the surrounding area.

CLUB NOTES 24TH SEPTEMBER 2017

Huge well done to our camogie teams today with 3 teams into Championship semi finals. The Adult camogie beat Crumlin in Senior 7, the Under 15s beat Mearnog /Barrog in Division 2 and the Under 13 Camogie team who have topped their Division 3 Championship group with 3 wins out of 3 after a great win over Ballyboden St Endas.


Well done to the Under 15 hurlers who put in a battling performance to beat St Vincents to progress to the Shield semi-final.


The AHL4 team were beaten by Clontarf on Saturday despite great saves from Kevin Hammond and good forward play from Adam O’Shaughnessy . The AHL9 were narrowly defeated by League Leaders St Josephs OCB in a cracking game on Sunday. Peter O’Connor, Warren Hanley, Conor Halpin & Luke McBride were prominent for St Finians. 


The AFL8 team are playing Ballyboden St Endas away on Sunday 1st October at 11am. All support welcome and appreciated.


Congratulations to the Dublin Ladies Football team who have won the All Ireland Senior title for the first time since 2010.

St Finians GAA Club extends deepest sympathies to the Tighe family on the untimely passing of Gerry Tighe. Gerry was an active supporter of the club taking part in the recent golf classic and other events.


There was a great turnout at the Saturday 6.30pm mass in St Finians Parish church in memory of Niamh Pierce who sadly passed away over the Summer. Niamh was a coach with the 2010 girls and her 3 children play with different teams in the club. Niamh was also a teacher in Holy Family Junior school.


The Annual Irish Cancer Society walk will take place on Saturday 7th October at 2pm. Meet at Peacocks at 1pm. There will be refreshments afterwards upstairs in Peacocks. There are sponsorship cards available or donations can be made on the day.

It was a successful weekend for the Under 13 & Under 15 Camogie teams who won both of their home Championship semi-finals beating Naomh Mearnog & Commercials respectively. Well done girls!


Congratulations also to the Under 15 boys who beat St Peregrines making it to the Championship Semi final.


Well done to the Under 14 LGFA team who had a great win over Templeogue Synge Street.


The AHL4 team are at home to Ballyboden St Endas on Saturday October 7th at 5pm. The AHL 9 team are playing Whitehall Colmcille away on Sunday October 8th at 3pm. The Adult Camogie team are playing Naomh Mearnog at home in the Senior 7A Championship semi-final, all support welcome and appreciated for the Adult Hurling & Camogie teams.

It was mixed fortunes for the Adult Hurling Teams at the weekend. The AHL4 team were beaten by Ballyboden St Endas on Saturday. The AHL9 team made the short journey to Cloghran and drew with Whitehall Colmcilles.

Congratulations to the Under 15s boys who had a great win against Noamh Fionnbarra in the Hurling Championship semi-final today. They play Ballyboden St Endas in the final in two weeks time.

The Under 13 & Under 15 Camogie teams are playing in the Championship finals on Sunday 15th October. The Under 13s are at home to Whitehall Colmcilles and the Under 15s are away to Naomh Fionnbarra. All support welcome and appreciated.

Well done to the Under 7s/2010 Boys & Girls teams who jointly hosted their 1st blitz as separate teams versus Erins Isle on Saturday. The skill levels on display from both sets of players were very impressive and the underage structures in the Club are very positive. The Under 7 girls train on Thursday evenings at 6pm in the Community Centre hall and Saturday mornings at 11:30am at River Valley pitches while the Under 7 boys train on Thursday evenings at 7pm in the Community Centre hall and Saturday mornings at 10:30am at River Valley pitches. All boys & girls born in 2010 are welcome to join.

PROPOSED ALL-WEATHER PITCH AT WARD RIVER VALLEY

River Valley Rangers AFC and St Finians Swords GAA welcome the announcement of the proposed DAA funded recreational hub in the Ward River Valley Park.

This facility has the potential to provide much needed year-round playing facilities for the community.

We look forward to working with Fingal County Council on the proposal.

Congratulations to the Under 15 Camogie team who beat Naomh Fhionnbarra to win in the Championship final in Noamh Mearnog on Sunday. The girls will be very much in demand over the coming weeks to assist with coaching the younger Camogie teams, now that their season has come to a very successful conclusion. Hard luck to the Under 13 Camogie team who were beaten in their Championship final today, but they battled very hard. The Club is very much proud of both the Under 13 & Under 15 Camogie teams on their achievements on Sunday.


The Under 15s boys put in a superb performance to win away against Craobh Chiarain in the quarter final of the football championship. In a physical, exciting match the lads recovered well from a slow start to win. Best of luck to the boys in the semi final!


The AHL9 team are playing Realt Dearg at home on Sunday 22nd October at 3pm. All support welcome and appreciated.


River Valley Rangers AFC and St Finians Swords GAA welcome the announcement of the proposed DAA funded recreational hub in the Ward River Valley Park. Congratulations to the Under 15 Boys team who won the Hurling Championship Shield final versus Ballyboden St Endas in Cherryfield on Sunday. 

Hard luck to the Under 15 LGFA team who were beaten by Lucan Sarsfields in the Championship final in Rush earlier today. They battled very bravely in atrocious conditions.

The Club is very proud of the achievements of both the Under15s Boys Hurling & Under 15 LGFA teams this weekend.

Well done to the AHL9 team who beat Realt Dearg at home on Sunday with a hat trick of goals from Ian Fahy while Packie Dunne, Ian Moriarty & Conor Collier were all prominent.

Please note that there will be no Nursery & Academy on Saturday 29th October the Bank Holiday weekend but they will resume at the normal times 10am & 11:30am respectively on Saturday 5th November. Best of luck to the AHL9 team who are playing the League semi final at home to Whitehall Colmcille next Sunday 5th November at 2:30pm. All support welcome and appreciated!

Well done to the Under 13 boys who concluded their season with a fine away win on Thursday evening under lights at Man O’War. Despite a slow start in the 1st half, the team gathered their composure to lead narrowly at half time. Man O’War briefly retook the lead early in the 2nd half but the Swordsmen struck back with a combination of fine goals from Daniel Devereux, Padraig Darcy, Lucas Malone & Liam O’Connell and resolute defending from Eoin and Conor Ryan and Stephen Murnane. With the 2017 league season over, it’s onwards and upwards for the St Finians Under 14 boys in 2018.      

Congratulations to Mia Hanlon, Alex Scannell, Sarah Tobin, Alannah Gallagher & Emer Crosbie who all won Cumann na mbunscoil finals with their schools this week. Sarah, Alex & Mia play with the Under 11 girls and Emer & Alannah are on the Under 10 team. They attend Scoil an Duinninigh and Gaelscoil Bhrian Boroimhe. Well done girls, we are all delighted for you.

Congratulations to the AHL9 team who beat Whitehall Colmcille in the League Semi final in River Valley on Sunday with a goal from Ian Fahey and a Canningesqe sideline cut from Conor Halpin among the vital scores and also some heroic Grobbelaar style goalkeeping from Gene Griffin near the end proving to be decisive. Al Lawton and James Sherlock were also prominent in defence.

Hard luck to the Under 15 boys Football who battled very hard and were only narrowly beaten in the C Championship semi final on Sunday versus Castleknock in Porterstown.

Hard luck to the AHL9 team who were narrowly beaten in extra time by St Josephs OCB in the League Final promotion playoff on Sunday in Fairview Park. 


Well done to Thuyen, Blaithin and Emily Jane from our Under 13 Camogie team who attended the Under 12 Camogie School of Excellence which took place last weekend in the Phoenix Park. 


Please note that the deadline for the Annual Clothing collection has been extended until Monday evening 13th November. A word of thanks to Anne O’Connor and to all those who were involved in organising it which raises much needed funds for the club. 


Well done to the coaches who completed the first part of the Foundation Coaching Course on Wednesday last. Part 2 takes place on 15th November from 7pm to 9pm in the Community Centre. 


A final reminder that the Club AGM will take place on Thursday 16th November at 9pm in the clubhouse. Please make every effort to attend as this is the members chance to have their say in how the club is run and managed.

The AGM took place on Thursday evening and the following officers were elected to serve on the Executive Committee for 2018, Chairperson– Jim Conway, Secretary – Paul Burke, Treasurer – Shay Collins, Vice Chair –Ian Fahey, PRO – James Freeman, Registrar – Ciaran Donohoe, Assistant Treasurer– Paul Dever, Children’s Officer – Sharon Callinan, Players Representative –Vinny Foley. Barry Shelly, Nuala Halpin & Fiona Cronin were also elected to serve on the Executive. The Juvenile Chair, LGFA/Camogie Chair & Irish Language and Cultural Officer will be nominated by the Incoming Committee. Congratulations to those elected and best wishes to the Executive for 2018.

Congratulations to the Under 7 2010 girls who played their first camogie match as a new team versus Naomh Mearnog on Saturday. The girls were assisted in their coaching by Zoe Galligan, Ellie Kane & Grace Murray from the Under 15 Camogie Championship Winning team and this was shown in the skill levels which were on display by the under 7s. In fact, all members from the Under 15 Camogie team are currently busy coaching other underage camogie teams in the Club, well done girls! 

There was a fine win also for the Under 10 LGFA Team over local rivals Fingallians.

There will be a CPSA (Child Protection in Sport Awareness) course taking place in the Clubhouse on Tuesday 12th December. It is essential for all coaches working with children to complete this course. Please contact Paul Lyons 087 176 1302 to book a place.

Well done to the newly qualified coaches who recently completed the Foundation Level Coaching Course over the course of two evenings.

Well done to the Under 7 2010 boys who played their first hurling match as a new team away to St Sylvestors on Saturday. The team structures are in excellent shape as they move towards Go Games, thanks to all of the hard work from Andy Lynam and his dedicated team of coaches Greg Davis, Niall Partridge, Ger Edwards, Rob Smyth & Ken McDermott.

The Under 7 girls & Under 11 boys were also in action in Arctic conditions on Saturday morning. Hats off to their resilience and determination to play for their teams on such a cold morning.

Barry Shelly & Nuala Halpin were nominated by Executive Committee to serve as Juvenile Chair & LGFA/Camogie Chair respectively. Ann O'Connor was also nominated to serve on the Executive Committee for 2018.

Congratulations to Emmet Daly from the AFL8 team who won his first cap for the Ireland Special Olympics Team. The club is very proud of Emmet on this achievement.

Congratulations to the Under 15 Camogie/LGFA team who won the team of the year for their achievements this season at the Annual Northside People Community & Sports Awards ceremony in the Carlton Hotel on Thursday evening. 


The Camogie girls won the Division 2 Championship while the LGFA girls were runners up in the Division 1 Championship.


Well done girls, the Club is very proud of you.

The Under 13 soon to be Under 14 LGFA/camogie are offering a Christmas tree collection service in conjunction with Greig Donnelly’s Swords Christmas trees which can be bought from club car park. It's €5 a tree for collection on January 7th and all proceeds will go to new training gear for Feile 2018.

Eoin O'Connor Jnr will be taking part in the Gaelic Voices for Change who are organising a massive sleep-out in Dublin and around the country on the night of the 16th of December to help raise money and awareness for the homeless problem in Ireland.
